May 30th. Martha Marcy May Marlene

This is the equivalent of a scary movie for me. Very nice ending, loved the tensions  in throughout, but honestly, Elizabeth Olsen does not do it for me.

    5/10

It is a good concept but I found it incredibly sexist and also incredibly pretentious. Good actors were wasted too, Jodi could be declared as the most convincing but none of them were extraordinary. Would not watch it again. Alan Cowan is an amazing 21st century Hans Landa tho.

    7/10

Ok I think somebody needs to say this. It was fine, entertaining, just what it needed to be. You don’t have to go and place it in the 250 films you should watch before you die because that spot could be reserved for something much greater, but it sufficed.

May 22nd. Antique Bakery (Korean Version)

    7/10

I think the correct word to describe this film would be cute. Sometimes incredibly corny but I think it is an overall enjoyable film. I have not read the manga nor watched the anime (or any of the other live action versions) but I heard it follows the manga’s plot closely, which I think is a good aspect. I also really liked the casting, all of the actors had a lot of charm (Especially Kim Jae Wook, that man is a jewel) and I think they portrayed their characters well. A little on the downside, the film does fall into some common stereotypes about homosexuality that could have been easily avoided and would have made the final product a lot better for me.

    WHAT I DESPISED:

That domestic violence was dismissed and talked about like it didn’t matter. Although a character is physically harmed by another, this character forgives him and boards the subject like it was nothing. I believe the script tried to make amends by having Nam Soo Yeong deliver a line about nobody deserving to be hit (which I thought was one of the best parts of the film), but this was all discredited later on. It simply made me really angry.

But over all it’s fun, enjoyable, well acted and it’s total EYE CANDY. Everything about it, the shop, the FOOD, and the actors are all incredibly aesthetically pleasing.

May 21st. A Frozen Flower (쌍화점)

    9/10

A superb film. Not only is every actor incredibly beautiful, but the cinematography, sets, props and every other part of the film was beautifully and meticulously done and placed. I thought the acting was absolutely convincing, I will definitely keep an eye on the three leads. The story is quite sad but I think it’s a film you can discuss a lot about afterwards, so I thought that was good. I didn’t give it a 10/10 only because the sex scenes (which were done tastefully, I’m not even complaining, which is unlike me) extended for a long time (and the scene between the two males lasted less than half of the time the scenes with the male and female did, so total objection, haha!). As much as I thought the scenes were done tastefully there were many in quantity and I thought it took time from potential cinematography porn.

Other than that, absolute recommendation, I wish films like this received more attention.

    April 7th. Fight Club

    9/10

If I could beat the shit out of a film I would beat the shit out of Fight Club. And I mean that in the best Tyler Durden-fucked-up-my-Angel-Face-but-I-remain-his loyal-servant kind of way. I just want to clear out that I am NOT giving a high rating because of the content of this film, that is the sole responsibility of a literary masterpiece written by Chuck Palahniuk. I am giving it a high rating because I would make love to the cinematography, editing, sound, acting and everything else production related to the film.  You know where it lost that 1? Opening sequence.
